Hey guys,

It’s been a while since i posted any updates so i thought I’d write something to let you all know what’s going on with me, with hydramist and in general! I guess I’ll also include some cool vids music and whatnot, who knows; i only just started writing! The possibilities are endless.

So first up I guess you better get some music on while you read this.

Current events

So unless you’ve been living under a rock or all of your sensory inputs have been rendered completely null and void by cataclysm, you’ll know Diablo 3 is coming out on 15th May. I was contact by my old arena buddy and personal trainer Athene (we especially worked on my shoulders!) who asked me if I’d like to be flown out to Belgium on 12th May to play Diablo 3 with him and Redhot aka carekoala aka bigbadmike. We’d be going for world first level 60, of course due to my competitive nature in general I couldn’t really decline, plus I wouldn’t really pass up the chance to travel or go hang out with mike again so I glady accepted!

So yeah thats the plan, we’ll see whether we can make it or not, after all; we’re sick cunts right?

We’ll probably be goofing around at the airport and stuff so i guess I’ll be taking some videos of the trip and whatnot for you guys and stick em on youtube when i get the chance.

Anyway the day before that is the Yas Presents tourny which I’ll be playing in with Dice and Salv playing priest hunter feral druid most likely for a laugh. We’ll see how that goes, who knows!

So in anticipation of tomorrow’s release, we offer you a way to get a little bit more from Hydra X.

If our Facebook Page or Twitter account or Hydra’s stream channel get 10000 likes or 10000 followers, we will release the full Hydra X movie with audio commentary from Hydra himself. This will allow you a greater insight into what was going through his head during the game, and why he picked out certain clips for the movie just to name a couple of bonuses from this.

Sorry about the downtime, unforeseen circumstances arouse (multiple HDD failure) which knocked the site offline for 4-5 days. We’re back now though, and the server is performing better than ever.

We’re looking to hire a web designer to redesign the whole of Hydramist (site, streams, forums)  in order to create a unified experience for the end user. You don’t need to know any particular languages (although they are helpful), all you need is to be experienced and talented. If you think you’re suitable for the job (it’s paid), email me with your portfolio.

Disclaimer: I have no reason to choose either platform on any financial or social basis. Hydramist is able to function using either streaming platform to function, and does so with success.

Lately there have been a lot of broadcasters switching their stream provider due to being misinformed as to how much money they can make for their time and effort. Now given I am someone who watches a lot of streams, I run a site which is primarily based on streams, and that my favourite bear has been gnawing at my ear about it; I thought I should give my take on the situation, and hopefully enlighten a few broadcasters in the process.

People are currently under the false impression that own3d pay streamers more for their ad impressions; this is due to own3d paying broadcasters using a flat rate model, where as Twitch uses a revenue share model which says they will take 50% of what has been paid to display the ad. The important information that people are missing out on here, which is also what certain people are doing their best to obfuscate, is that Twitch will pay an equal amount as to that promised by own3d the vast majority of the time.

Twitch will always pay out 50% of what they have been offered by the ad agency, where as own3d will always pay 5$ of what they have been offered.

Example:

• Twitch have been paid 20$ to display X ad, they keep 10$ and give the broadcaster 10$.
• own3d have been paid 20$ to display X ad, they keep 15$ and give the broadcaster 5$.

Now the amount paid scales on how much the ad agency is willing to pay, however the majority of the time it will be around 10$; which means you will be payed 5$ for your impressions.

So if both streamers are paying out roughly the same amount of money, why do I think Twitch is a better service for the broadcaster? There are 3 reasons:

1. Twitch put the link between the broadcaster and their audience as the primary focus of the platform. This allows for the audience to be able to communicate with the broadcaster in a simpler manner, and also allows them to be notified as to when their favourite broadcaster has started streaming.
2. The broadcaster always has the chance of being paid a lot more per ad than the flat rate offered by own3d. There is a reason why the majority of the major tournaments choose to use Twitch you know…
3. The player that Twitch uses is superior to own3d’s in every way. own3d’s player is absolutely horrendous. It has been constantly complained about for over a year, with no improvements being made to remedy any of the problems or complaints. I don’t like having to mute adverts 3 times every 5-10 minutes, do you?

So those are my thoughts on the whole streaming / broadcaster situation. You can find more information posted by Twitch, with input from the community here and here.

TL;DR:

• They both pay the same minimum amount 95% of the time
• You have the opportunity to make more money with Twitch
• Twitch allows for a better relationship with your audience
• Own3d need to fix their player so you don’t have mute adverts 30 times an hour.
